Spiral Beach has a nice little taste of their new album up here called Domino. Check it OUT. The album comes out in September and this week they’re hitting up New York a couple times, once with the GRATES (check out their site for info). Everyone must DANCE.

If you haven’t heard any of their previous music, check them out at spiralbeach.com or myspace.com/spiralbeach. They are composed of Maddy Wilde (Nancy White‘s daughter) -vocals/keyboard, Dorian Wolf -bass, Airick Woodhead (son of David Woodhead) -vocals/guitar, and Daniel Woodhead (son of David Woodhead and brother to Airick, of course) on drums.

They are the definition of spectaculitmus paper.

If this is the first time you’ve ever heard the name, I strongly recommend checking out Eric Robertson and The Boston Boys‘ Myspace. They’re a sort of folktastic, upbeat bluegrass band from Boston, Massachusetts. I’m really bad at classifying music, and I don’t know a whole lot about bluegrass, so take that with a grain of salt or what not. I do know, however, that I’m very much liking all four of the songs I’ve heard so far (their debut album drops on the 25th of July) and that I would most definitely compare the vocals and lyrical style of Eric Robertson to that of Luke Lalonde (Born Ruffians) whom I love.

Although the line up tends to vary, the band is generally composed of Eric Robertson (Northern Lights)-Lead Vocals and Mandolin, Stash Wyslouch (Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers) -Guitar, Nate Leath (Old School Freight Train) -Fiddle, Sam Grisman (Son of David Grisman -David Grisman Bluegrass Experience- and Bassist for The Deadly Gentlemen) -Bass, and Nick Falk (Nick Falk) on Drums. There are way too many links in this paragraph. But it’s a really good line-up :] I tried to give as many links to various side projects that the boys all have, without giving too many, but honestly, there are way too many to list. If you’re interested in seeing more, e-mail me or go off searching for them by yourself. They’re not hard to find.

The vocals are smooth, the lyrics are catchy, and the beats are sweet. Yum.

GO READ THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE RIGHT NOW. Or, A.S.A.P.

It’s one of the very best books I’ve ever read, and now they’re going to go and ruin it. They’re turning it into a movie, and they’ve cast it all wrong and I’m sure they’re going to fuck the plot up even more. So don’t watch the trailer, don’t look at the promotional pictures, none of that. Pick up a copy of the book from your local Barnes & Nobles or Chapters (depending on where you live) or Library and just read. It’s sort of a big book, but it’s well worth the time. It’s well written and has an excellent plot.

So if you plan on ever seeing the movie (which I do not recommend as of now, but will probably end up doing anyways because I’m just that dumb -or curious, you decide) please make sure to read the book, first. Because she’s an awesome author, and I do not want the book to be ruined for anyone by some dumb movie produced (or something like that) by Apple (as much as I love Apple.) If the movie turns out amazing, I’ll let you know.

Just got the new YYYs Album the other day. Check it OUT. Overall, it’s pretty danceable.

I like “Zero” the best, so far, along with “Dragon Queen” and “Dull Life.” They’re pretty catchy. And the chorus in “Heads Will Roll” has some serious chant potential. I also love the fact that Nick Zinner put down his guitar and, er, picked up? a keyboard. That’s pretty cool. (Don’t take that the wrong way, I love his guitar, and he still uses it in the new album.)

If you’re thinking of buying the album, I’d definitely go for it. I believe HMV is having a 2 for 20$ sale on it right now and not only does it include 10 awesome tracks, it also features four more acoustic tracks ( “Soft Shock,” “Skeletons,” “Hysteric,” and “Little Shadow.”). OR you could just buy it for the kick ass album cover. I think it’s pretty neat.

ALSO, Nick Zinner, who is a god of mine, seems to be a bit of a photographer… All the more reason to adore him, of course. Check that out, too: NZPHOTO
